How much taxi car rental costs
A taxi car costs €150 to €300 a week, depending on the Bolt category: about €150 for Bolt, €200 for Comfort and €300 for Premium. The minimum rental period is 1 week, and the weekly price stays the same for any term, so four weeks in the Bolt category cost €600.
Taxi insurance, servicing and 24/7 technical support are included, CASCO costs extra. To go online, a driver needs a category B licence (not a first-time licence), a teenindajakaart (state fee €38) and Estonian at B1 level: see documents for taxi drivers.
The manager will tell you the price of a specific car on +372 58848310 or after you send a request.
Estimate your potential earnings
* A rough estimate based on averages: €20 of fares per hour, an average city speed of 20 km/h and gas at €3.5 per 100 km. Real earnings depend on demand, working hours and driving style.
How to start driving for Bolt in a rental car
Choose a Car
Pick a Toyota on LPG or a Skoda Octavia on CNG and the date you want to start. The manager will tell you which cars are free and which Bolt category they fit.
Sign the contract
Bring your driving licence, an ID document and your teenindajakaart. The rental contract is also the basis for the car’s sõidukikaart (state fee €20).
Start earning
We register you as a Bolt driver within about an hour. You get the keys and a fuel discount card and can accept rides the same day.
Which car to choose for taxi work
Our fleet has over 50 automatic cars, and the main difference between them is the fuel. A Toyota on LPG costs about €3.5 per 100 km to run, a Skoda Octavia on CNG about €4.5. At 800 km a week (40 hours at 20 km/h, as in the calculator) that is €28 against €36 for fuel. A few models from the fleet:

Toyota Corolla 2021
| Year | 2021 |
| Transmission | automatic |
| Fuel | Petrol/Hybrid/LPG Gas |
| Consumption EUR/100 km | 3,5 € |
Which Bolt categories the cars fit
| Bolt category | Car year (minimum) | Other requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Bolt | 2013 (Tallinn) | Boot of at least 350 litres |
| Comfort | 2018 (Tallinn, Tartu) | The model must be on Bolt’s Comfort list |
| Premium | 2017 | Saloon or SUV with leather or Alcantara seats, on Bolt’s Premium list |
| Electric | 2012 | Fully electric car with at least 4 seats |
| XL | 2011 | Van or MPV with at least 6 passenger seats |
The years in the table are Bolt’s rules, they change, and the current list is in the Bolt app. The law does not limit the age of a taxi car: it needs a registration and a valid roadworthiness test, and the city can add its own requirements (ÜTS § 64). In Tallinn these include air conditioning and an emission class of at least Euro 5. Our fleet has only Toyotas and Skoda Octavias, with no vans or 7-seaters, so we have no cars for the XL category.
Additional Equipment
A GPS navigator, dash cam, child car seat or phone holder can be added to a taxi car if available. Tell us in advance on +372 58848310 what you need.

Documents you need to drive a taxi in Estonia
Under § 54 of the Public Transport Act (Ühistranspordiseadus, ÜTS), taxi work needs three documents: the carrier’s taxi licence (taksoveoluba), the car’s sõidukikaart and the driver’s teenindajakaart. All three are issued by the rural municipality or city where you work. State fees follow §§ 332–334 of the State Fees Act, checked on 14.09.2026.
| Document | How to get it | Processing time | State fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Teenindajakaart (driver card) | Application through the Register of Economic Activities (MTR). Since 01.04.2026 no photo is submitted: it is taken from the identity documents database | Decision within 7 days after all data is submitted, the card has no expiry date | €38 |
| Sõidukikaart (vehicle card) | For a driver who does not own the car, the rental contract is the basis; the card ends together with the contract | 7 days | €20 |
| Taksoveoluba (carrier licence) | Needed by whoever provides the transport service: a company or a self-employed driver (FIE). Its number goes on the sõidukikaart application | 7 days | €64 |
Ask the manager when you apply who arranges the sõidukikaart for the rental car and whose taxi licence is used. The text of the law: Ühistranspordiseadus.
All drivers
- A category B driving licence or higher. A teenindajakaart is not issued on a first-time licence (esmane juhiluba, ÜTS § 57).
- A clean record: no punishments or traffic offences from the list in the same § 57.
- Estonian at B1 level or higher: the requirement for public transport drivers, and the law counts taxis as public transport.
Citizens of non-EU countries
- A residence permit (elamisluba) with the right to work in Estonia, or registration of short-term employment with the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA)
- An Estonian personal identification code (isikukood)
Under the EU DAC7 rules, platforms such as Bolt report drivers’ income to the Estonian Tax and Customs Board (EMTA). We give every driver a rental contract that can be used in their tax accounting.
How to pay tax on Bolt income
| Form | Tax | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Entrepreneur account (ettevõtluskonto), opened only at LHV Pank | 20% of the amounts received, higher if you have joined the funded pension; the bank forwards the tax itself | Starting without registering a business, while the amounts received stay under €40,000 a year. Health insurance applies from €2,436.50 received a month (2026) |
| FIE (self-employed person) | Income tax and social tax on profit after expenses | Drivers with high work costs: car rental and fuel reduce taxable profit |
| OÜ (private limited company) | Tax is paid when salary or dividends are paid out | Drivers whose income is above the entrepreneur account limit |
The entrepreneur account terms were checked on 18.10.2026 on the Tax and Customs Board website. If a company pays for the service, special rules apply to that payment: check them before choosing the form.

1 week. The weekly price does not depend on the length of the rental: a month costs the same per week as a single week. Terms for a month or longer are on the long-term car rental page.
If you already have a teenindajakaart, we register you as a Bolt driver in about an hour and you get the car at our office the same day, so you can start on the day you sign the contract. Getting a teenindajakaart takes up to 7 days (ÜTS § 59).
Yes. A car used as a taxi needs a sõidukikaart (ÜTS § 54). For a driver who does not own the car, the rental contract is the basis, the state fee is €20 and the card ends together with the contract. The manager will tell you who applies for it when you send a request.
No. Taxi drivers must speak Estonian at least at B1 level, the same requirement as for other public transport drivers. Non-EU citizens also need a residence permit with the right to work or registered short-term employment, and an Estonian personal identification code.
According to the calculator on this page (€20 of fares and 20 km per hour): 20 hours a week give about €236, 40 hours €622 and 60 hours €1,008 after a Bolt category car at €150 and gas, but before taxes. Real earnings depend on your hours, demand and the platform’s commission.
A car on LPG uses about €3.5 per 100 km, a Skoda Octavia on CNG about €4.5. At 800 km a week that is about €28 on LPG and €36 on CNG. You get a fuel discount card with the keys.
